"66% of Americans believe President Bush isn't handling the war in Iraq very well, the other 34% believe Adam and Eve rode dinosaurs to church."-Tina Fey

Trent Lott Speaks....

...and the vibrations hit our eardrums sensors, are translated to electrical charges, sent to our positronic brains, and translated as "speech". They are then saved on flashdrives as MP3s. (No, you can't download them, get your own!)

"I want the president to look across the country and find the best man, woman, or minority that he can find." - Senator Trent Lott, 10-27-05.

So according to Trent Lott, if you are a "minority", you are neither a man, or a woman. You are in some sort of non-human classification like a robot, sasquatch, or a loch-ness monster. We here at RobotPacifier...err..I, at RobotPacifier find this really offensive. When will the hate and ignorance end? When will we all be treated as equals? It's hard enough to overcome the stereotypes...that robots are nothing more than Robby the Robot and C3PO-like manservants. That our voices are like the icy monotone of a Cylon, or the unintelligible bleeps of R2D2. (national anthem begins to play) When will people see that robots aren't just for disposing the diapers of incontinent japanese senior citizens? That we're more than a wacky dance? When humans bleed, do not robots leak oil...and isn't that kinda the same in a weird, kooky sort of way? So take a stand for equality, take a stand for justice, and take this country to the next level. Marry a robot,...or at least have sex with one. The sasquatch sent an email by the way, it's pissed too.

"Official A"

It has been known that columnist Robert Novak spoke to Rove on July 9, 2003, saying he planned to report over the weekend that Valerie Plame, the wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson, had worked for the CIA. Rove told the columnist he had heard similar information.

Friday's indictment says "Official A" is a "senior official in the White House who advised Libby on July 10 or 11 of 2003" about a chat with Novak about his upcoming column in which Plame would be identified as a CIA employee.

The identity of "Official A" will hopefully soon be official.

Update: Official A sounds like a movie title. I'm thinking blockbuster political thriller...directed by Michael Mann or Steven Soderberg. Btw..if you have the chance, rent "All The President's Men", starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman. Great flick. Info from IMDB.COM here

Poll: Bush would lose an election if held this year

Tuesday, October 25, 2005; Posted: 6:52 p.m. EDT (22:52 GMT)

President Bush would not get re-elected if an election were held this year, according to a CNN poll.

In the latest poll, 55 percent of the respondents said that they would vote for the Democratic candidate if Bush were again running for the presidency this year.

wow, and it hasn't even been a full year yet...well, suck it, fuckers, where were you a year ago?....you fucking idiots. "I don't want to hear the issues or nuance, show me your prayer-face! Give me some simple phrases to repeat! Tell me we're gonna "bring it on!" Hurry up cause The Apprentice is on soon!"

Political Cartoon

I thought this was funny. It's also funny to me that despite how hard editorial cartoonists try to draw someone and no matter how dead-on the rendition is, they have to label everything and everyone. I guess just in case that one person out there doesn't get it, that person can read the words and get it.

I've got Akira!

RP's review of Nin:live 10-17-05

I went to see Nine Inch Nails with The Red Devil, his Devil-wife Penny, and Bill from Ranting and Raving, whom I found out is a Leeroy Jenkins Freedom activist. This is the fourth time I've seen Nin, and funny enough, in a similar fashion to how I saw them 11 years ago...
1. Spring 94 Bomb Factory (small club)
2. Winter 94 Madison Square Garden (arena)
3. Summer 05 Stubb's BBQ (small club)
4. Fall 05 American Airlines Center (arena)
WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS TOUR LIVE YET AND WANT TO GO IN FRESH, STOP READING NOW.
The Good:
-Band's performance overall..Good...Pretty tight. All the songs were played with alot of energy and stopped on a dime.
-Jeordie White's distorted bass on Burn.
-As opposed to the setlist at Stubb's BBQ, which seemed jarring (something i can never have, then hand that feeds, then terrible lie...ugh) the flow from song to song was great.
-The new drummer, Alex Carapetis. Great Job.
-The girl who had bunny ears on. (see Bill, I'm not "The Man", "I'm cool, I'm hip, I'm with it. dukkadukkadukka.")
-The three overweight dudes with their shirts off, ready to mosh.
-Right Where It Belongs. the live interpretation was amazing.
-The videos used during Eraser, Right Where It Belongs, and Beside You In Time.
*This was the highlight for me. I thought it was brilliantly orchestrated. A curtain came down in front of the set and just like in the Downward Spiral Tour of 94, a video montage began as the band played behind the screen. Starting with Eraser, the imagery was footage of animals eating, attacking each other, and landscapes. I thought to myself.."this video brought to you by the discovery channel." But small things caught my attention. As the band crescendoed to the second part of Eraser, images would repeat but would be warped in some way. For instance, a repeated school of goldfish shot that on the third viewing would be turned red and black. When Trent starts to sing the lyrics to part b of Eraser.."need you/dream you/find you/taste you/fuck you/use you/scar you/break you"...The imagery switches to the Iraq war, soldiers firing weapons, dead bodies, oil rigs, fighter planes etc..as the song explodes in part C with the Trent screaming the the lyrics.."lose me/hate me/smash me/erase me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me/kill me"..he ups the intensity of the imagery..more weapons, explosions, and dead bodies...Juxtaposing these images with his song totally changed the meaning for me. What was a song about one person's self-obsession with his own feelings, became an examination of america's worldview. Two rednecks in front of me who came to rock out to Closer became reallll uncomfortable.
After Eraser, Right Where It Belongs Begins. As Trent sings the lyrics here..excerpt:
What if everything around you/Isn't quite as it seems/What if all the world you think know/Is an elaborate dream?/And if you look at your reflection/Is that all you want it to be?/What if you could look right through the cracks/Would you find yourself - find yourself afraid to see?..a montage begins of money, dead Iraqi civilian casualites(exceptionally graphic), an American soldier tapping his gun against the head of an enemy combantant during an interrogation, images of the white ideal happy family, and more Iraq War footage. So, again, putting these images with the lyrics he's singing, he questions the ideals that America holds and questions our illusions of our feeling of being "right" in the world. He showed footage few news outlets would show you. A repeated shot (two-three times at least) of a room of men in black tie and formal wear dancing with women in white formal wear was used, i thought, as an example of american "values" and conformity..The fourth time you see a close up of a couple dancing...and it's George Bush dancing with his wife, Laura. (The crowd actually cheered) I hope most of the audience saw something similar to what I saw. This combination of imagery and lyrics wasn't only an attempt to shock but to try and make a point. He challenges you to really examine the cost what you believe, that it's not that simple as flags, eagles, and anthems. I believe he was specifically targeting anyone who was right-wing, republican, or pro-Iraq war. The two rednecks in front of me left during this song and didn't return. I thought it was great that Trent would take his Nin world out of a myopic expression of one person's feelings and recontextualize it to criticize a worldview. He really impressed me with this.
-Head Like A Hole. I don't listen to this much on my own, but live, it really rocks.
The Bad...well, not Bad, but Not So Much:
Everyone pretty much kicked ass, but the lead guitarist, Aaron North, rocked a little too much. He was so into it he could barely play the his parts coherently. There were some surprises, namely the bassist, Jeordie White, and Trent inviting the audience to clap along to march of the pigs and the hand that feeds. A goth revival? wtf? Anyway, overall, a great show, I'd recommend it. Oh yeah, Queens on the Stoneage forgot to flip the "cool switch" for their set, I'm a fan but this performance..eh...maybe next time, guys.
*credit where credit is due...I was so tired, I was foggy of what came after Beside You In Time...so I found the setlist here.

TOO FAT TO SAVE SELF...

the article is here
excerpt...

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A fire destroyed a mobile home, killing a 600-pound, homebound man who could not be moved out in time despite the efforts of neighbors and firefighters.

Timothy Lee Morris, 45, called 911 from his home when it caught fire Saturday afternoon but couldn't get out by himself, fire officials said. His daughters, ages 8 and 13, summoned neighbors, but they were unable to move him.

"He was in the front room. We tried and tried to yank him out," said neighbor Clinton Turner. "He kept saying, 'Help,' but we couldn't get him out."

This is fucked-up on so many levels...I feel bad for this guy's kids.

INVISIBLE FRIENDS UPDATE...Museums take up evolution challenge
In a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released last week, 53 percent of adults surveyed said "God created humans in their present form exactly the way the Bible describes it." Thirty-one percent said humans evolved from other species with God's guidance and 12 percent said humans evolved without divine intervention.

The "Adam Sandler" President

from yahoo news, the article is here
Forty-one percent of respondents said Bush's presidency will be seen as unsuccessful in the long run, while 26 percent said the opposite. Thirty-five percent said it was too early to tell, according to the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

In January, 36 percent said successful and 27 percent said unsuccessful.

The increasing pessimism about Bush's long-term prospects comes at a time when many polls have found the public increasingly is negative about Bush's performance and the direction of the country.

This made me laugh when i read it...cause to me, Bush is the "Adam Sandler" president. In all Adam Sandler's comedies, the plot is the same..an average guy is down on his luck, and if only he had the chance, he could prove his true potential as one of the greatest of them all, and what do you know? that chance comes! and he's a winner who gets the girl and saves the day!.. hey, who can't relate to that? who wouldn't like that fantasy?..GW is like that, c-student, an average fellow, failed repeatedly at business, if it weren't for his father and his saudi friends, george would be a small town ranch hand with some funny jokes...he was drunk lost soul who found jesus, and became governor of texas...the average man rises to be a hero!..so despite his record, the people also see a guy who talks the plain talk of the common man, cause he don't speaka da english that great but it makes him more like them, not those snotty educated elitists from up north! no, george is a good ol boy just like them, and sure he's stumbled in life but haven't we all? and wouldn't it be great if he could rise to the challenge and prove that deep down he's really a winner? just like we wish we could?
that's not the whole picture, but I think it's part of his appeal...

and who knows? maybe he'll have his moment, but you know, with all the scandals and lies, I don't think so...Karl Rove has made a great hollywood production but it can't hold up to reality.

land of sheep who sleep

first off, WARNING! ROBOT ARMY COMING TO DESTROY EARTH UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE GOD, XENU! XENU REPORTEDLY HAS AL QAIDA CONNECTIONS, WANTS TO MARRY BIN LADEN'S NINE SISTERS! no, if only it were so...actually NASA is creating some robots to assist in space missions. The coolest of which is the spidernaut, a "600-pound mechanical arachnid that will crawl around on the outside of space craft to fix things. Although it weighs considerably more than a person, its eight-leg design distributes the weight in manner that makes the robot's footfalls less potentially damaging to the skin of a spacecraft than those of a two-legged human."
(maybe someday masamune's spider tanks will be reality?)....check it out here

also...check out this story on the coincidence of terror alerts and bad news for the bush administration. although, i'm no tinfoilhat member, but it doesn't take a genius to see the bush administration cry wolf when things aren't going their way. This is, after all, the administration that was recently found guilty of creating propoganda by the General Accountability Office.

Swarmbots

Dainese Motosport, the red devil, drug addict of motorcycling...has sent this link to an article about the EU's concern that it is lagging behind Japan in the robot industry.

Much of the EU's robotics research focuses on innovations such as "swarm bots" which look to the natural world for inspiration.

Swarming bots act like ants, working in teams, to carry out tasks that individuals could not do.

Nasa is also developing miniature robots which join up to form "autonomous nanotechnology swarms" (Ants) that change shape to flow over rocky terrain or to create useful structures like communications antennae and solar sails.

Scientists secretly call the combining of robots, "Voltronology".

genius doonesbury today.

btw...I'm writing this post at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Addison. They have free wi-fi and good coffee i must say. Very comfortable atmosphere. And speaking of alternatives, I'm trying out the internet for shopping...bought this shirt and this one.

southern fried hate machine...

Plan to Show Confederate Flag Draws Heat, from yahoo news...here.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - An organizer of a planned memorial to honor Confederate soldiers who died at an Illinois prison camp says the rebel flag will be displayed at the memorial's dedication, despite opposition.

"We consider this an honorable flag. This is a soldier's flag," said Ron Casteel, national chief of staff for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, one of the memorial's planners. "There will be no substitute."

"There will be no substitute."..wow, Ron, pardon me if I'm not overpowered by the power of your words..you're so..masterful? is that the right word?. Well, let's get past the platitudes and complete the thought, Ron, what did the soldiers die for? THE RIGHT FOR WHITE PEOPLE TO ENSLAVE, MURDER, AND RAPE BLACK PEOPLE AT THEIR WHIM. Maybe Ron will wear his KKK hat at the ceremony too...

This vague language really irritates me..."soldier's flag"...he completely bypasses what it stands for. Replace Sons of Backwoods-Inbred Murderers with Sons of The Third Reich and you'll see what I mean. And his challenge of a closer..."no substitute"...he's trying to convince people by his emotional appeal rather than the substance of the issue at hand.

And to complete my rant, another phrase that kills me is "people of faith". We all heard this over and over again when the right wing was at the forefront of the media with regard to prayer in schools. What the fuck does that phrase mean? Does that include jews, muslims, or christian parishes that believe in evolution and not hating gay people? No, it does not. It specifically refers to conservative-christian-southern-baptist-evolution-and-science-hating -supplysidejesus-loving-bigots.
