10,000 days

Il DR provided me an advance copy of Tool's latest album. After a couple of weeks and two 5.1 stereo listening sessions (courtesy of Il DR and larry), it's had some time to sink in...

First, kudos to Djlicious for recognizing the undertow album sound on the guitar and for commenting that it sounded like a lateralus remix. Maynard was quoted in a recent interview that their engineer, Joe, was instrumental in constructing their new sound and finding that undertow tone again. The track "Intension" definitely sounds like a lateralus remix because adam is paraphrasing riffs from that song and danny is doing his magic with his techno pads.

Vicarious-awesome.
Jambi-love the music, unsure about what maynard is doing.
Wings for Marie/10,000 days- really powerful song. it really takes me to a melancholy place which speaks to how good it is so i don't listen to it much.
The Pot- another where the music is great but i find maynard's contribution ponderous.
Lipan Conjuring-uh...no. skip it.
Lost Keys (blame hoffman)-nice intro to RS..."let's get some background on this fella"
Rosetta Stoned-"alrighty then, picture this if you will" just amazing. if you're going to listen an 11 minute and 15 second epic song about an acid trip, this is it.
Intension-the band remixes lateralus while maynard channels jim morrison.
Right in Two-another of my faves. along the same lines as pushit (live), no quarter, and disposition.
Viginti Tres-nice effects.

I'm also amazed by the mix and production. 10,000 days sounds really huge and full while maintaining a clarity between the instruments. Overall, another great album.

Uptown Vision Art Show

Last friday night was the reception of the opening of a show by my art group. It was held at a swanky, hip, optometrist's office/gallery in uptown. I have three robot paintings there and the show is up for a month. Thanks to those who showed up...Penners27, Rob, Charlie and Tina. Weesa, IDR, and Ranting and Raving where unavailable but missed. F ujitsu.
afterwards, we went to Chili's where we ran into Hondo and Suzie, who were celebrating their anniversary.

around 11:30, everyone went home. Rob still wanted to hangout so we went to Lower Greenville. Saw three fights, and met a drunken 24-year old psychology graduate student, Valerie, who said..."Yeah, I have a boyfriend, he's here somewhere....he's 38...don't let that you turn you off."

here's a link to running robots from IDR.
run, robot, run. dashing.

UPDATE: djlicious was missed as well. but he's in D.C., buried in books. He does, however, point out that love is awesome and it blossoms...and when you mix that with a fast food restaurant, you get an awesome blossom. that's amore.
